Bush Administration
Lying About Lying
Submitted by Roy Temple on Sat, 11/12/2005 - 12:38pm.I started to do a post on Bush's Veterans Day Speech this morning and then stumbled across a post over at Kos that summed up the whole debate, all within the headline: Lying about Lying.
I think Lipris nails Bush. Go take a look.
Randy Kelly Is Just The Warm-Up Act
Submitted by Roy Temple on Mon, 11/07/2005 - 9:16am.I spent a good portion of last year in Minnesota as the State Director for the Kerry Campaign, and I must admit that it gladdens my heart that Randy Kelly is in the midst of losing his re-election battle as Mayor of St. Paul.
Kelly, supposedly a Democrat, not only endorsed President Bush in last year's election, but made numerous campaign appearances with him.
It's a real tribute to the grassroots of the DFL in Minnesota that they are going to bring home a victory for Chris Coleman. But seeing that name Coleman triggers another important point.
I Think Rove's Days Are Numbered
Submitted by Roy Temple on Mon, 11/07/2005 - 8:57am.Last week, Washington, DC was abuzz with discussions about Karl Rove's future.
Jim VandeHei's front page WaPo story really kicked things into gear. And now, Time speculates on the same subject.
I say that Karl is not long for BushWorld and let me show you a passage from the WaPo story to help explain why:
Rove has long been regarded as the most influential and feared Bush aide and has enjoyed the fervent backing of the president and influential conservatives. Republicans with firsthand knowledge of the private talks about Rove's political problems said there have been informal discussions involving people inside and outside the White House, and that they reflected the views of a large number of administration officials who are concerned about Bush's efforts to start anew in 2006 with as little interference from the scandal as possible.
Ashcroft Now Teaching At Pat Robertson University
Submitted by Roy Temple on Sun, 11/06/2005 - 2:33pm.
Apparently, when Ashcroft isn't busy playing rent a citizen to high-paying corporate clients via his new consulting firm, Ashcroft & Associates, he is teaching at Regent University School of Law. Regent, is the University founded by Rev. Pat Roberston.
Students wishing to take classes under Ashcroft can choose from the following offerings:
More Deceit From The Bush Administration On Intelligence Matters
Submitted by Roy Temple on Wed, 11/02/2005 - 2:09pm.This is a lift from Think Progress:
McClellan: They’ve Already Had Phase Two
McClellan at during today’s gaggle on the Senate Intelligence Committees investigation of pre-war intelligence:
Q. Why did they finally agree to a bipartisan group, then, to look into this whole business?
Bush Has Lost His Way
Submitted by Roy Temple on Wed, 11/02/2005 - 12:02pm.The AP's Ron Fournier pounded out a pretty tough story on President Bush this morning. Check it out.
The building blocks of President Bush's career — his credibility and image as a strong and competent leader — have been severely undercut by self-inflicted wounds, leading close allies to fret about his presidency. They say he's lost his way.
Reid Calls Closed Session Of The Senate
Submitted by Roy Temple on Tue, 11/01/2005 - 3:26pm.Senator Harry Reid has taken the extraordinary step of calling the U.S. Senate into closed session, in an attempt to force the GOP controlled Congress to recognize and face the grave risks posed to the nation by the Bush administration's reckless abuse of intelligence data.
Here is Senator Reid's statement from the closed session and here is a backgrounder on closed sessions.
Republicans will complain and whine and gnash their teeth, all in an attempt to change the subject from the underlying issue.
Bush's Watergate
Submitted by Roy Temple on Tue, 11/01/2005 - 12:17pm.The DCCC has produced a powerful video tying together the various aspects of the Bush administration's Watergate--the conspiracy to discredit Ambassador Joe Wilson by leaking the identity of a covert CIA operative.
The DCCC has taken a hard swing, and connected.
The Press Narrative On Bush And Dems
Submitted by Roy Temple on Tue, 11/01/2005 - 10:24am.Peter Daou over at Salon offers up his usual cogent analysis on the current mindset of the press as it relates to President Bush.
They have worked tirelessly to set Bush up as a victim, all to make the story of a rebound that much more dramatic at the first sign of a positive development.
The press seems to vouch for the President's character, while they attribute political motive to everything Democrats do.
For example, in yesterday's Boston Globe, Rick Klein reports that Senator Harry Reid has called for President Bush to oust Karl Rove.
No Quarter for the Bushies. Anywhere.
Submitted by Jeff Mazur on Sat, 10/29/2005 - 8:21am.A telling statement from a spot-on story. From today's Washington Post piece by Dan Balz and Juliet Eilperin comes this statement from Representative Tom Davis of Virginia on the Administration leak scandal.
"They should have taken care of this a long time ago. They should have done their own investigation. They're going to get very little sympathy on Capitol Hill, at least from me... They brought this on themselves."
