GOP Leaders Will Be Reaching For The Sominex Tonight
GOP leaders with ties to Jack Abramoff, including Governor Ehrlich, won't be getting much sleep tonight. Here's why.
Two men have been charged in the gangland style murder of a Miami businessman. How does that impact on the GOP leadership in DC?
Well, according to the AP story:
Two men were arrested and charged with the Mafia-style killing of the founder of the Miami Subs sandwich chain, unsolved for more than four years, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.
Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis was ambushed after he left his office in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 6, 2001. Boulis, who was involved in a business dispute with prominent Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff at the time, was shot to death after two cars stopped him.
Keep in mind that the murder remained unsolved for nearly four years. Then, on August 11, 2005, Abramoff was indicted for wire fraud relating to his purchase of SunCruz. On August 16th, Abramoff announced through his lawyer that he would be willing to meet with homicide investigators. And now, six weeks later, the four year old murder investigation produces arrests.
Here's what that means. Jack Abramoff has made a career out of doing deals. He has spent about equal time making them on behalf of others, and on his own behalf.
He is now facing serious jail time, so I doubt that he is going to let his dealmaking skills fall dormant. And you can rest assured that if he is willing to give up the mafia in a murder case, he will give up a politician in a heartbeat.
Thus, the CVS's in Washington are likely to have a run on Sominex tonight as the laundry list of GOP luminaries tries to catch some sleep between wondering what Abramoff has told federal investigators about his dealings with them.
