Wal-Mart CEO Thinks Wishing For Health Care Coverage Makes You A Whiner

Internal Wal-Mart documents reveal that CEO Lee Scott thinks that employees who expect health care coverage are just whiners.

From the The Independent:

Wal-Mart, the world's biggest retailer, took another blow to its reputation yesterday after its chief executive was quoted telling an employee he should quit rather than complain about the company's famously miserly terms and conditions.

Amid a continuing storm over poverty pay and union-bashing by the mighty retailer, leaked internal web-chats revealed a testy exchange between Lee Scott and a store manager he implied was being disloyal.

But how could Wal-Mart possibly afford health care for their employees?

But the leaked exchanges suggest managers are struggling to maintain morale at the company, which is expected to report annual sales of $295bn (£170bn) and net profits of $11bn next Tuesday.

But here's how a recent Denver Post editorial sees it:

Medicaid was intended to cover the indigent and disabled, not employees of a wildly profitable retailer. There shouldn't be any need for legislation that would single out and punish one company, or even a few companies. Wal-Mart need only improve its benefits plan to avoid the temptation of this sort of targeted legislation.

That PR effort is really working out for you, isn't it Mr. Scott?
