Oh To Be A Fly On The Wall At This RGA Event

The AP reports that Governors Rick Perry of Texas, Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, and Matt Blunt of Missouri all gathered in Texas yesterday for two RGA fundraising events, one in Dallas, and one in Houston.

You have to imagine that the conversation between the three of them had to be pretty interesting, given that all three are caught up in political and campaign finance scandals these days.

Governor Perry is under fire for steering a massive lobbying contract to Cassidy & Associates, the firm led by Rep. Roy Blunt's former Chief of Staff Gregg Hartley, and where former Team Abramoff lobbyist Todd Boulanger handles the account.  Boulanger is married to Rep. Roy Blunt's spokeswoman, Jessica Boulanger.

Governor Mitt Romney has come under severe criticism for his decision to keep the $500,000 that the RGA accepted from proceeds of lobbyist Jack Abramoff's fraud scheme, for another two years.  The RGA accepted the $500,000 from Michael Scanlon in 2002 from a firm used by Scanlon and Abramoff to defraud tribal clients.  Romney has said he will return the funds over the next two years.  After all, he couldn't let integrity stand in the way of a well-funded media buy for his 2006 candidates.

And Governor Matt Blunt is under scrutiny by a Texas prosecutor for the role he and his father played in a money laundering operation used to assist Rep. Tom DeLay's political machine.

Must have made for some interesting conversation yesterday.
