Biden Increasingly Troubled By Alito's Views
Senator Joe Biden has grown increasingly concerned about Judge Samuel Alito's views, according to this AP story, especially with regard to his opposition to the "one man-one vote" principle.
But Biden, D-Del., said he was most troubled by Alito's comment about reapportionment under the Supreme Court when it was led by Chief Justice Earl Warren.
The Warren Court, as it became known, ended public school segregation and established the election principle of one-man one-vote.
"The part that jeopardizes it (Alito's nomination) more is his quotes in there saying that he had strong disagreement with the Warren Court particularly on reapportionment — one man, one vote," Biden told "Fox News Sunday."
The history of the Bush admnistration teaches us that what people say when they think no one is listening is a far better guide to how they will conduct themselves over the long term, than is what they say at the moment they are under the public scrutiny of a confirmation process.
Do you remember what a moderate tried to become at his hearings? It turns out that his Senate record and his interviews with Southern Partisan magazine were a truer reflection of his philosophy and actions.
I have a feeling that this nomination is going to get alot more interesting the longer it goes on.
