Can You Say "Obstruction of Justice?"
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales admitted yesterday that he withheld formal notification of White House staff for nearly 12 hours regarding the Federal investigation into the Plame leak. But he gave a heads up to a key Bush staffer, who then could have talked to whomever he wanted.
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales said yesterday that he spoke with White House Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. immediately after learning that the Justice Department had launched a criminal investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's identity. But Gonzales, who was White House counsel at the time, waited 12 hours before officially notifying the rest of the staff of the inquiry.
Expect Card to be called before the grand jury and asked about all the conversations he had within that 12 hour window. One can only imagine that Fitzgerald will be particulary interested in any conversations between Card and Rove.
Remember this day folks, we will look back on it as a turning point in this scandal.
