There's an interesting front page story in today's KC Star on Arizona Senator John McCain.  The story provides a fairly balanced look at McCain, compared to the fawning coverage he normally gets from the national media.

Here's an interesting point often overlooked by DC reporters:

Sometimes lost in all the infighting is a sense of just how conservative McCain is. On myriad social issues — abortion, guns, gay marriage, home schooling — McCain is in agreement with many from the GOP’s far right.

I suppose for the national media, even the tiniest variations from right wing doctrine brings with it the title, Maverick.
