The Corruption Is So Widespread, It's Time To Give It A Name: The GOP AbraMafia
The AP and NY Times reports that GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff is nearing a deal with federal prosecutors.
Previous new stories have suggested that the DOJ probe into GOP Congress might involve as many as half a dozen members. But yesterday's AP story, which we have to assume includes the most up to date information from the plea negotiations, says that Abramoff may be implicating as many as 20 members of Congress.
Abramoff‘s cooperation would be a boon to an ongoing Justice Department investigation of congressional corruption, possibly helping prosecutors build criminal cases against up to 20 lawmakers and their staff members.
In addition, today's Washington Post includes a report about a GOP front group called the U.S. Family Network, that has extensive ties to Rep. Tom DeLay and Rep. Roy Blunt. The story reads more like the inner workings of La Cosa Nostra, than a modern political party.
This scandal and the various criminals associated with it is now something of historical proportions and therefore deserves a name of its very own. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to dub the various elements of the Republican Party caught up in this scandal--The GOP AbraMafia.
Please use it as you see fit.
