Blunt Leads In Votes From the GOP AbraMafia Caucus

WASHINGTON, DC – The House GOP AbraMafia Caucus is pleased to announce that Rep. Roy Blunt (R-K Street) currently leads in the tally of announced supporters from the Caucus in his bid to become House Majority Leader.

“I am proud to report that Rep. Blunt is off to a strong start among members of our Caucus,” announced Rep. Robert Ney, Chairman of the House GOP AbraMafia Caucus.

Thus far, Blunt has received the announced support of Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. John Doolittle, and Rep. Bob Goodlatte.  Rep. Ney, as Chairman of the Caucus has indicated he may not endorse in the race.

“Depending on when I enter my guilty plea, I may or may not be available to vote in the Majority Leader’s election, therefore, I don’t believe I should publicly announce my support for any candidate at this time,” Ney said.

Rep. Doolittle has been a longtime member of the GOP AbraMafia Caucus. In fact, his wife does some event planning for the group.  Rep. Hunter is merely an honorary member, but may be promoted to full membership depending on the outcome of the ongoing corruption investigation involving former Rep. Duke Cunningham.  Rep. Goodlatte is a probationary member of the Caucus.  Goodlatte was the co-host of a tennis and golf fundraiser with Rep. Roy Blunt last July at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA.

Those who follow the Caucus will recall that the Homestead Resort is where Westar executives paid $25,000 for a meeting with Rep. Tom DeLay to seek a special provision in the energy bill.  Rep. Roy Blunt was ultimately assigned to introduce the special provision.
